CreativeOhio’s talking points to educate artists and legislators about the power of Ohio’s creative sector and why voting matters

Represent! Ohio’s creative sector is a $25B industry. I already vote with my dollars. I’m going to vote at the polls in November. #artsvoteohio

I’m already advocating with my art. It’s time to advocate with my vote. #artsvoteohio

Ohio’s creative sector brings more to the state’s economy than agriculture, education, and utilities. It’s time to use our voice and vote. #artsvoteohio

My art, my voice, my vote. #artsvoteohio

Talking Points

CreativeOhio’s talking points to educate artists and legislators about the power of Ohio’s creative sector and why voting matters

We mean business. Arts and culture in Ohio is a $25B industry.
(US Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2022)

We’re important to Ohio’s bottom line. The creative sector in Ohio represents more than 3% of the state’s gross domestic product (GDP). This is more than utilities, education, or agriculture.
(US Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2022)

We’re one of the most creative states in the country. Creatives in Ohio are 157,000 strong and the state has two of the nation’s Top 12 most arts-vibrant cities.

We’re making social impact. A high concentration of the arts in a city leads to higher civic engagement, more social cohesion, better child welfare, and lower poverty rates.
(University of Pennsylvania Social Impact of the Arts Project)

We’re already advocating with our art. It’s time to advocate with our vote.

We are at the forefront of positive change. Since the 1960s, social practice has seen artists creating art with communities, not just for them. Ohio’s artists expand the definition of what it means to be an artist—acting as facilitators, collaborators, community organizers, and connectors. We use our work to foster dialogue, inspire change, and address social issues.

We represent our communities. We tell the stories of Ohio’s people through our endless mediums. We are at the ground level of representation of our communities.

We can influence arts funding and support at national, state, and local levels.

We care about the future. From the environment and education to healthcare and social services, by voting, we can elect people whose values align with ours.
